Making Your Water Safer Through Backflow Prevention
Water should flow in only one direction within water pipelines: from the treatment plant to our customers. Without safeguards, it is possible for water to flow backwards from a home or business into the water system, causing contamination of the water.
To prevent backflow, Goleta Water District enforces state mandated regulations, including annual checks by our certified inspectors on back-flow devices that the District requires all commercial and some residential users to maintain.
What Residential Customers Can Do
Backflow contamination can be prevented by keeping hoses out of buckets and other sources of standing water. Hardware and plumbing stores sell simple backflow prevention devices that can be readily mounted on hose bibs.
