Goleta Water District's treatment plant is undergoing a multi-million dollar series of renovations that will allow the plant to meet tougher water quality standards in the 21st century.

All water provided by Goleta Water District meets today's drinking water standards. But the treatment plant is undergoing significant enhancements so that it will continue to meet the stricter regulations.

The comprehensive set of improvements to the treatment plant cost less than making a series of smaller improvements. Some of the key upgrades include:

• More efficient filters.
• Automated controls that will monitor the water treatment process 24 hours a day and alert staff if problems arise.
• New control valves at each stage of the water treatment process, allowing greater control of the process.
• Change to new chemicals that are safer to handle for workers and lead to higher quality water.
