On June 24, 2016, the Goleta Water District (District) delivered and applied recycled water through its Recycled Water Hauling Program (RWHP) for dust control and clean-up activities associated with the Sherpa Fire. 4,000 gallons of recycled water were applied by the District in cooperation with Santa Barbara County Fire and the U.S. Forest Service, and applications will continue for several days. Every gallon of recycled water used saves a gallon of potable water for drinking and public safety. The District’s Recycled Water Hauling Program provides customers not connected to the recycled water distribution line the opportunity to purchase surplus recycled water supplies, and is the only one of its kind in the county. The District serves recycled water through a partnership with the Goleta Sanitary District (GSD) for use in outdoor irrigation, agriculture, industry, dust control, and construction, though there may be restrictions and specific needs to consider depending on how it will be used.
The District can also offer recycled water hauling to other agencies on the South Coast upon their request. For more information on the Recycled Water Hauling Program please contact the Goleta Water District at (805) 964-6761.
Under a partnership with the GSD, the District serves approximately 1,000 acre feet per year (AFY) to 30 customers in the Goleta Valley. Recycled water represents approximately 7% of District supplies, and helps conserve potable water, improve supply reliability and keep costs lower for customers.
