Originally adopted by the Board of Directors in June 2012, the District Sustainability Plan is updated annually in the form of Progress Reports and provides an overview of how District initiatives, activities, and operations support sustainable water delivery.
This year’s Sustainability Plan Progress Report provides an update on the District’s sustainability initiatives for the 2023- 2024 Fiscal Year (July 2023-June 2024). As the District marks the 80th anniversary of its founding, the report reflects on the District’s legacy and the groundwork laid in the previous year on projects that will set the foundation for long-term sustainability and success. This year saw the District moving beyond the planning and design phases and into the execution of key projects that will address aging infrastructure, improve operational efficiencies, and enhance resiliency. Through these projects, the District is not just maintaining its infrastructure—but is breaking ground on a future where sustainability, reliability, and innovation provide a guide to success.
The Sustainability Plan Progress Report offers an important lens through which readers can step back and take a holistic view of the District’s overall approach to addressing the challenge of aging infrastructure that is facing water systems as well as public infrastructure across the United States. This report offers readers a comprehensive look at the District’s efforts to build a sustainable, resilient, and future-ready water system that will serve the needs of our community for the next 80 years and beyond.
